UP to weed out outdated references from police regulations
Lucknow
09-June-2016
The Uttar Pradesh Police Regulations will be updated by removing provisions and references incorporated since the British Raj times, Inspector General of Police (Rules and Manuals) Amitabh Thakur said on Thursday.
Thakur, who has been assigned the task by Director General of Police Javeed Ahmad, said many improvements in the present police regulation will be soon proposed to the authorities.
He pointed to references to special provisions for European prisoners in police custody; tours of rulers and princes; and medals conferred during the British rule etc., which have now become redundant.
Other regulations talk of animal theft and notified gangs under the Criminal Tribes Act, which was repealed way back in 1949.
Thakur said a detailed draft for police regulation suited for present-day requirements will soon be prepared. - IANS
