1.64 lakh people in Tamil Nadu camps

Some 1.64 lakh people have been housed in 460 relief camps in the four flood-affected districts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa said on Thursday.
The other districts are Cuddalore, Thiruvallur and Kanchipuram.

The chief minister said in a statement after an aerial survey of the flooded areas that Chennai district topped the list with 62,267 people in camps, followed by Kanchipuram (57,516), Thiruvallur (38,495) and Cuddalore (6,358).
According to her, over 41.95 food packets had been provided to people.
Jayalalithaa said those living in apartments in flooded areas were being given drinking water bottles and food by helicopters and boats.
She said the power supply would be restored once the water was drained out of the flooded areas. - IANS
