Amritsar to have water testing lab

To ensure supply of safe and clean drinking water, the Punjab government will set up a multi-district water testing laboratory in Amritsar with the technical expertise of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, a minister said on Monday.
This testing laboratory will be capable of testing arsenic, uranium and other heavy metals in drinking water, Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Razia Sultana said.
She said the laboratory will be the major source of providing clean drinking water to Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Pathankot districts, besides catering to other parts of Majha region.
She said it will also be capable of testing basic and bacteriological parameters of drinking water.
The lab is being established in Amritsar with an outlay of Rs 6 crore. IANS
