The Election Commission on Monday moved the Delhi High Court seeking permission to shift from a college EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) pertaining to the Lok Sabha elections concerning North-West Delhi constituency.

Justice Jayant Nath refused to give urgent hearing on the poll body's application and tagged it with the main matter filed by Congress leader Rajesh Lilothia against BJP MP Hans Raj Hans.

The court will now hear both the matters on September 18.

The Election Commission in its plea sought permission to relocate the EVMs currently in a Delhi college as they have to be moved to another location for future elections.

"The urgency to shift the EVMs and VVPATs is that the premises at Delhi Technological University, Shahbad Daulatpur, Delhi, is urgently required for restoring the educational activities that are hampered because of the storage of the EVMs and the VVPATs," the application said.

Earlier, Justice Nath had issued notice to Hans Raj Hans and also asked the Election Commission to preserve the documents filed by Hans at the time of nomination.

The petition filed by Lilothia alleged that Hans made false declarations regarding the income of his wife and about his education. IANS
