Delhi gang-rape: fifth accused detained

Delhi Police Friday detained a man from Badaun in Uttar Pradesh in connection with the gang-rape and torture of a 23-year-old in a moving bus here, police said Friday.
The man, detained in a late night raid Thursday, has been identified as Raju. He will be produced before the four men arrested to confirm his identity, an official said.
"We are yet to ascertain that the detained person was involved in the rape incident," the official said.
"The detained person will be confronted before the four arrested to confirm identification," a police official said.
The savage rape and torture occurred Sunday night when the woman and her male friend boarded a private bus, used for ferrying school children, in south Delhi after watching a movie.
The victim, battling for life at the Safdarjung Hospital here, was brutally assaulted in a moving bus Sunday night. Her male friend who tried to save her was beaten by the rapists. Both were dumped by the roadside after some 40 minutes. - IANS
