No MBA, No App: Auto Driver Makes Rs 5-8 Lakh a Month with One Brilliant Idea
04-June-2025

Rahul Rupani, Product Leader at Lenskart and a two time startup founder, has shared a fascinating story on LinkedIn about a small-time auto driver in India who earns between Rs 5 to 8 lakhs every month, without even driving his auto.
Rahul was at the US Consulate for his visa appointment when he was told by security that bags were not allowed inside. “No lockers. No suggestions. Just: ‘Figure it out,’” he wrote. While he stood clueless on the footpath, an auto driver waved at him and said, “Sir, bag de do. Safe rakhunga, mera roz ka hai. ₹1,000 charge hai.”
Rahul hesitated at first, but finally handed over his bag. That moment led him to discover what he called a brilliant business idea.
This auto driver parks his vehicle every day right outside the consulate and offers a bag-keeping service to people who are not allowed to carry bags inside. He charges Rs 1,000 per bag and gets around 20 to 30 customers a day. That adds up to Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 daily, or Rs 5 to Rs 8 lakhs a month.
Rahul found out that since the driver cannot legally keep all the bags inside his auto, he has partnered with a local police officer who owns a small locker nearby. The bags are stored there, making the setup legal and secure. The auto serves as the first point of contact for the customers.
While most people outside the consulate are nervous about their visa interviews, this man is running what Rahul described as a highly profitable and simple business without any apps, funding, or technology.
“No MBA. No startup jargon. Just pure hustle and street-smart product-market fit,” Rahul wrote.
Rahul, who has led large-scale tech projects, said this was a masterclass in identifying a specific pain point, building trust without any tech tools, and offering instant peace of mind to customers at exactly the right moment.
