In a significant development, Tripura's Director General of Police Akhil Kumar Shukla left the state on Saturday afternoon on a 70-day-long spell of leave, an official said.
An official of the state Home Department said that the DGP has left but refused to disclose the reason behind the long leave.
"In the absence of Shukla, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Rajiv Singh will hold charge as DGP," the official, who did not want to be identified, told IANS.
In a major administrative reshuffle last week - a day after the Lok Sabha election results were announced, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government transferred the Chief Secretary Lalit Kumar Gupta and a large numbers of IAS, IPS and Tripura Civil Service officers.
During and before the recent Lok Sabha elections, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, in his public meetings, said that there were "conspirators" within the government and the party and action would be taken against them. IANS
