The semi-decomposed bodies of Trinamool Congress (TMC) Minister Moloy Ghatak's sister-in-law and niece were recovered from West Bengal's Asansol area, police said on Tuesday.
A police officer said that they received information about foul smell emanating from a house in Hindustan Park and recovered the bodies of Jayashri Ghatak, 61, and Nilam Ghatak, 38, on Monday.
He said that their post-mortem report was awaited.
"As per initial investigation, there was no indication of foul play," the officer added.
The Minister's brother Ashim Ghatak died a few years ago by drowning. The two victims were identified as Ashim Ghatak's wife and daughter.
Asked if the Minister had lodged a complaint, the police officer said: "They were relatives of the Minister, so members from his family were present during the police procedure." IANS
