Stressing upon the Centre's "zero tolerance" policy towards terrorism, insurgency, corruption and smuggling, Union Home Minister and BJP President Amit Shah on Friday directed the Director Generals (DGs) of all paramilitary forces to "identify" the issues affecting border security and submit a detailed action plan report.

Chairing a high-level meeting at his North Block office to review the current status of border security and the measures to be taken to strengthen it further, Shah directed the senior officers to take stringent steps against the practices of terrorism, insurgency, corruption as well as smuggling of weapons, narcotics and cattle.

Shah directed the DGs of Border Security Force, Sashastra Seema Bal, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and Assam Rifles to "identify all issues affecting border security and submit a detailed action plan to the Home Ministry in this regard".

He said the Narendra Modi-led government has "zero tolerance" policy towards such practices, so all the concerned departments should focus on all such issues and take strict actions whenever required.

Shah also stressed that it must be "ensured that the best facilities for housing, health and training" are available to the security personnel posted in the border areas.

"We must keep in mind that 130 crore countrymen are safe because of these security personnel on the border," Shah said.

Others present at the meeting included Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Secretary (Border Management) B.R. Sharma and Special Secretary (Internal Security) A.P. Maheshwari, along with other senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs.IANS
