Kolkata Monday got its own "Madame Tussauds" with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee flanked by Bollywood megastars with Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan inaugurating the "Mother's Wax Museum".
Spread over 5,000 sq. feet, the city's first wax museum located at Finance Centre, New Town and named after Mother Teresa, houses 19 life-size wax statues of the state's most illustrious sons and daughters - Satyajit Ray, Suchitra Sen, Manna De, Sourav Ganguly - rubbing shoulders with Mahatma Gandhi, Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar.
Banerjee, along with the megastars, inaugurated the museum at the Netaji Indoor Stadium during the opening ceremony of the 20th Kolkata International Film Festival.
The museum will be officially thrown open for public viewing Tuesday onwards.
Veteran wax sculptor Susanta Ray, who has a smaller wax museum in Asansol in Burdwan district of West Bengal, has crafted the statues.
The project has been implemented by the Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation. - IANS
