19 smuggled exotic birds recovered in Bengal

Nineteen exotic birds smuggled into India from Bangladesh in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, were recovered on Friday. One person has been arrested.
"Seven blue and yellow Macaws and 12 Kookaburras (Kingfisher) being transported in a vehicle through National Highway 34 was intercepted at Barasat. The birds have been handed over to the Wild Animal Rescue and Transit Facility Centre for safekeeping and further transfer to Kolkata's Zoological Garden," said a statement from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence.
The agency said the birds were smuggled into India from Bangladesh.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested and was produced before the CJM Court, Barasat, it added. - IANS
