When Roger Bannister finished fourth, out of medals in 1952 Olympics, he did not give up. His self-belief and resolve to redeem himself made him set an even more aggressive goal which most athletes thought was impossible to accomplish.

Two years later, the 25-year old medical student left a 3,000-strong crowd spellbound and rubbing their eyes in amazement. Bannister had made history. He became the first man to run a mile in under four minutes. The message echoed loud and clear- Success is possible if you believe it is possible.

Everyone aspires to be successful but when it comes to accomplishing their goals, many let self-doubt creep in and sabotage their ambition to succeed.

They fall victim to limiting beliefs and prevent themselves from putting forth their best efforts. So many gifted and hardworking people get caught in mediocrity because they doubt their capabilities.

To achieve any goal, you must first convince yourself that you can accomplish it. Once your mind is convinced, nothing is impossible.

Successful people are ordinary people. What is remarkable about them is their unwavering faith in themselves which propels them towards success.

The legendary boxer, Muhammad Ali summed up his secret to success when he said, “It is lack of faith that makes people afraid of meeting challenges, and I believe in myself.”

Having confidence in yourself and faith in your abilities is what self-belief is all about. Whatever you believe structures your reality, because you always act in accordance with your beliefs.

As Henry Ford once rightly said, “If you believe you can do a thing, or if you believe you cannot, you’re usually right.”

Self-belief empowers you because when you believe you are capable of succeeding, you face challenges with a positive attitude. You make things happen.

Conversely, when you lack self-belief, you think negatively. Your efforts are half hearted and you don’t give your best.

Everyone is unique with an inherent potential to be successful. There are things YOU can do, which others cannot. The only real limitation on what you can achieve is in your limiting self-beliefs.

Believing in yourself is an attitude that you need to consciously develop. Identify your limiting beliefs and challenge them. Siphon off self-limiting beliefs and replace them will empowering beliefs.

Remind yourself of your past achievements and glory- If you have done it before, you can do it again. YOU CAN do it anytime.

Engage in a positive self dialogue. When you tell yourself that you can succeed, you mentally prepare yourself for success. Your mind does not know the difference between real and made up. When you believe ‘you can do it’, you find ways and means of ‘how to do it.’

There are no short-cuts in life. Anything worthwhile takes time to build up. Same is true for self-belief. In order to drill your belief deep down in yourself, you need patience, motivation and firmness of resolve.

Barriers and obstacles will always come between you and your success. But with strong belief and determination you can break through all barriers.

Remember you have no limitations on your potential except for those that you believe you have.

“If you believe you can, you probably CAN.
If you believe you won't, you most assuredly won't.
Self-Belief is the ignition switch that gets you off the launching pad."
