'Desh Bhakti' curriculum for Delhi govt schools
14-August-2019
The Delhi government will launch a new 'Desh Bhakti' (patriotism) curriculum for students up to class XII from next year, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Directorate of Education, he said he aims to achieve three goals through the new curriculum: "Each citizen should be proud of the country, they should be aware of their duty and responsibility towards the nation and they should have the passion to sacrifice for the nation."
This Independence Day, Kejriwal said, "we want to dedicate the 'Desh Bhakti Curriculum' to the country."
He said the government wants the education system to ensure that each child becomes a good human being, is equipped to support his family and become a true patriot.
"We need inputs from everyone about the kind of course it (the curriculam) should be," he added.
"Usually we are reminded of our love for the country either when there is an India-Pakistan match or when there is tension on the border. In our day-to-day life, we forget about our country. The Desh Bhakti curriculum should lead to every citizen truly loving his country," he said.
Kejriwal said the curriculum will also make children a better citizen. "We have to love our country to the extent that we respect it and respect our guests."IANS
