Jayalalithaa, also the general secretary of the ruling AIADMK, was accompanied by Sasikala, a close aide and another accused in the case that has been on for 18 long years.

The three times chief minister has been directed by the trial court to be present in a makeshift court, set up near the central jail.

The court is expected to deliver the judgment around 11 a.m.

Apart from Jayalalithaa and Sasikala, V.N.Sudhagaran, J.Illavarasi (relatives of Sasikala) are also accused in the case.

A large number of AIADMK leaders and cadres are already in Bangalore to provide moral support to their leader.

According to legal experts, if there is a conviction order, then Jayalalithaa will be disqualified as a legislative member and would lose her chief ministership. - IANS
