T Maran, a district coordinator of ‘Students’ Federation for Free Eelam,’ said their protest was to draw attention to the killings of over 600 Tamil fishermen by the Sri Lankan navy, and India’s military support to Colombo.
“The Indian government has taken up the matter at the highest level with the Italian government for the killing of two Kerala fishermen by the Italian marines. But New Delhi has not cared about the killings of 600 Tamil Nadu fishermen, who have been shot dead by Sri Lankan navy,” said Maran.
The Students’ Federation for Free Eelam had earlier announced that it would launch a non-cooperation movement against the government of India to press its demand for India’s support for formation of an independent Tamil Eelam. – TWL Bureau
