Gang-raped Jharkhand girl dies of injuries

A girl who had set herself on fire after gang-rape by her boyfriend and his three friends March 17 near here died Wednesday, police said.
The girl tried to commit suicide March 18 by setting herself on fire after the incident as her boyfriend, who had allegedly raped her, refused to marry her after the incident.
She was admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) here for treatment, where she died of her injuries Wednesday, police said.
The incident took place at Sikidiri village, 60 km from here. The girl in her statement to police alleged that her boyfriend Pret Ranjan called her at Getalsud dam on March 17 evening to chalk out a plan to elope, but instead he and his three friends raped her. All the accused are untraced and on the run.
Her parents were against her marriage to Pret.
"Based on the medical report, we will take suitable action," a police official told IANS.
