India will not allow Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the atomic sector.

"There is no proposal to allow FDI in the sector," Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office V. Narayanasamy told the Lok Sabha Wednesday.

The minister was asked if the indigenous investment in nuclear energy production was insufficient.

The minister said the proposed nuclear power reactors were to be funded by a mix of debt and equity.

"The equity requirements are planned to be met from indigenous sources comprising of investment by the Nuclear Power Corp of India Ltd and its joint venture partners and budgetary support." - IANS
