Pharma Billionaire Leena Tewari Buys Rs 703 Crore Luxury Duplex in Mumbai
31-May-2025

Leena Gandhi Tewari, chairperson of USV Private Limited, a pharmaceutical and biotechnology company based in Mumbai, has reportedly bought two sea-facing duplex apartments in Worli for Rs 639 crore.
With stamp duty and other charges, the total cost comes to nearly Rs 703 crore. The apartments are spread over 22,572 square feet and are located between the 32nd and 35th floors of the 40-storey Naman Xana building. This is said to be the most expensive residential property deal in India.
Tewari is one of India’s richest women. She leads USV, a company that specialises in medicines for diabetes and heart diseases, as well as biotechnology products. USV was started by her grandfather Vithal Balkrishna Gandhi in 1961, in partnership with Revlon.
Her husband Prashant Tewari is the managing director of the company. He studied engineering at IIT and Cornell University. Their daughter Aneesha Gandhi Tewari, who has a PhD in molecular biology from MIT, joined the company’s board in 2022.
As of May 2025, Tewari’s net worth is estimated at 3.9 billion US dollars (around Rs 32,500 crore). She is one of the wealthiest people in India, even richer than well-known businesswomen like Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw and Falguni Nayar.
Besides running her business, Tewari also gives money to help others. In 2019, she donated Rs 34 crore to social work, and was among the top women donors in the country that year.
She supports projects such as the Dr Sushila Gandhi Centre for Underprivileged Women, which focuses on education and empowerment. She has also written a book titled Beyond Pipes and Dreams, a biography of her grandfather.
Though she is extremely wealthy, Tewari keeps a low profile and focuses on her work and charitable activities. – TWL Bureau
