In a major development amidst the ongoing IPL 2025, Gujarat wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel has been called for trials by Chennai Super Kings (CSK), along with Mumbai’s Aman Khan and Kerala’s Salman Nizar. The trials were reportedly held in Chennai on April 27 and 28.
The 26-year-old Urvil Patel is known for his explosive batting in domestic cricket. He made headlines last year by scoring a 28-ball century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Tripura - the fastest ever by an Indian in T20s and the second-fastest in the world. He also smashed a 41-ball century in a List-A match, placing him among the quickest century-makers in Indian cricket history.

Despite these performances, Patel was not picked by any team in the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, CSK, who have had a poor season so far with only two wins in ten matches, seem to be exploring fresh options.

During the recent trials, Patel reportedly scored 41 off 20 balls in one match and followed it up with 50 off 20 balls, impressing the CSK management. While there has been no official word from the franchise about signing any of the three players, their participation in the trials has created a buzz among fans and experts, especially with CSK looking to rebuild their squad.

CSK’s remaining fixtures include games against KKR, RR, and GT. It remains to be seen whether Patel or the others will be added to the team before the season ends. – TWL Bureau
