In a recent interaction with The Weekend Leader, Dr. G Viswanathan, Founder & Chancellor of VIT, underscored the need for a higher gross enrollment ratio, currently at 27%.
He pointed out that out of 14 crore eligible students aged 18 to 23, only about four crore are enrolled in higher education.
He emphasised the joint responsibility of state and central governments to ensure access to higher education for all classes of people.
Dr. Viswanathan argued that competing with developed nations is vital for economic progress and that higher education is pivotal in addressing societal inequality. He warned that unless all citizens are educated, our democracy will be a flawed one. – TWL Bureau
