Reporters Guild condoles death of veteran journalist S Viswanathan

Madras Reporters Guild (Chennai Nirubargal Sangam) condoled the death of veteran journalist, S Viswanathan, 84, Editor of Industrial Economist, a 50-year-old industrial magazine, in Chennai today. He is survived by his wife Padma, son Bala Swaminathan, daughter Sangita and grandchildren.
Viswanathan fell ill while participating in a meeting on October 15 and was admitted to a city hospital.
After completing his post-graduate courses in mathematics and political science from the Madras University and teaching for a couple of years at the Madras Christian College, Viswanathan launched the transport monthly Mobile in 1962 and the business magazine INDUSTRIAL ECONOMIST in March 1968.
Viswanathan studied hundreds of projects, spread throughout India, including steel plants, power projects, fertilizer plants, agricultural universities, nuclear power stations, automobile plants, textile and petrochemicals units, oil platforms, and oil refineries. He also visited over a hundred industrial projects in Germany, Britain, France, Japan, and the US.
Viswanathan had access to several top leaders in the country who respected his pioneering efforts in the fields of trade, industry and commerce.
He was a bundle of energy and an inspiration to journalists. - TWL Bureau
