In a 20-minute shootout here, a notorious criminal wanted in connection with more than 15 cases, including murder and robbery, was killed by police, an officer said Thursday. A policeman was also injured.
Mohan Chand, 32, was killed Wednesday night in the exchange of fire while his two associates managed to escape after the incident on K.N. Katju Road in Rohini area of north Delhi, police said.
The firing started when the criminals attacked a police team that was following them, the officer said.
"As soon as the criminals realised that they were being chased, they fired at the police team. In retaliatory firing, police punctured the tyre of their vehicle and killed Chand. A police officer was also injured," said the officer.
Chand had been living in north Delhi's Narela for some time. "Three days ago police tried to arrest him in south Delhi's Lodhi Road area but he managed to give them the slip," added the officer. - IANS
