E-rickshaws may be banned in Delhi
09-February-2013
The Delhi Transport Department has decided to launch a drive against unauthorised battery operated e-rickshaws in the city, a government official said.
The drive will be launched Feb 15.
"It has been observed that some battery-operated rickshaws are being plied in various parts of the city. These are not only running illegally but are also dangerous for passengers. So, we have decided to take action against such rickshaws," a transport department official said.
He added: "Such rickshaws do not have any certification from any authorised agencies. They are very prone to accidents, which can result in fatal injuries or even death of passengers."
"Action will be initiated under relevant laws against manufacturers, suppliers and dealers of such e-rickshaws for endangering public safety," the official added. - IANS
