India to have record food production
New Delhi
08-February-2013
India is likely to produce 250.14 million tonnes of foodgrain during 2012-13 despite a drop of 7 million tonnes in kharif crop due to erratic monsoons, the government said Friday.
According to the second advance estimates released by the agriculture ministry, production of major crops, except pulses, is likely to be less than last year when there was a record crop production helped by a favourable monsoon.
The government increased minimum support price (MSP) of pulses in recent years to increase their production. - IANS
