Tamil Nadu to call bids for 3,300 MW projects in March
08-February-2013
Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Friday said the Tamil Nadu government would next month call for tenders for setting up of three power projects totalling a capacity of 3,300 MW.
Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks on Governor K. Rosaiah's address to the assembly, she said: "Keeping the future power needs in mind, the government would call for international bidding in March for 660 MW Ennore Power Plant expansion; 1,320 MW project at Udangudi; and 1,320 MW at North Chennai Thermal Power project."
Jayalalithaa said that during the previous DMK government the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) had borrowed Rs.35,000 crore but spent only Rs.7,858 crore towards power projects. The rest of the amount was spent on purchasing power from outside the state and debt servicing.
She assured the assembly members that the state would be free of power cuts by the year-end. - IANS
