Darbar Move: Offices close in Jammu
Jammu
29-April-2016
All top offices of the Jammu and Kashmir government closed in this winter capital on Friday to move to Srinagar, the summer capital, for the next six months.
The Civil Secretariat that houses the offices of the Chief Minister, her ministers, the Chief Secretary and top bureaucrats were shuttered. All these offices will start functioning in Srinagar from May 9.
The 'Darbar Move' is an over 150 years old system initiated by the Dogra kings of the state.
After India's independence in 1947 and the state's accession with India, the practice was not ended. Elected governments in Jammu and Kashmir have continued with the tradition. - IANS
