The Weekend Leader’s Editor, P C Vinoj Kumar, presented the scholarship cheque of Rs.5,000 to the headmaster, M Karunanithi, at a simple function held at the school on Monday.
Parameswaran lost his father at an early age and his mother is the only earning member in the family. She is mostly dependent on the yearly ‘100 days work’ of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme for a livelihood.
Parameswaran wishes to study medicine and is now studying at a private school in Namakkal, with financial support from well-wishers and donors.
He was second top scorer in the school, where out of a total of 114 students who appeared for the tenth exams last year, 62 children had scored above 400 marks and 29 of them had scored above 450.
Located in a village, where most of its students come from a poor background and are children of daily wagers and illiterates, Kondraikadu Government High School has consistently produced 100 per cent results in the tenth standard board exams.
Appreciating the school for churning out top rankers year after year and maintaining a record of 100 per cent pass in Class Ten exams for more than ten years on the trot, Vinoj encouraged the children to dream big, fix goals, and systematically work towards achieving the goals.
