Rs.1.5 crore seized from Maoists in Jharkhand

Jharkhand Police on Monday seized around Rs.1.5 crore in cash taken by Maoist rebels as levy from Chatra district, and also arrested four Maoist supporters, police said.
Acting on a tip off, police raided a hideout of Maoist guerrillas and seized Rs.1,49,33,600 in cash.
Police sources said the guerrillas had collected the levy from various companies involved in coal mining and road construction work in the state.
Maoist guerrillas, according to the police sources, collect more than Rs.300 crore a year through extortion.
Maoists are active in 18 of the 22 districts of Jharkhand. - IANS
