The Delhi police has arrested a 22-year-old civil services aspirant for allegedly running an organised racket in illegally downloading and selling videos of a private coaching centre.

The accused Priyadarshan Tiwari had bought an app from a known coaching institute in Mukherjee Nagar under a fake name and downloaded videos as well as shared them on Telegram and YouTube.

A complaint from the Civil Services Coaching Centre was received by the Cyber Cell, north district, in which the complainant levelled allegations against unknown persons for running an organised racket -- cheating, online fraud, data theft, including copying, downloading and extracting Intellectual Property.

The complainant alleged that due to the Covid-induced lockdown, he launched a mobile application for Android phones and tablets, providing coaching for civil services examination, on May 21, 2020. But later in October he came to know that the videos uploaded on his mobile application were already available on a YouTube channel.

"The matter was taken up by the Cyber Crime Cell, north district, and technical investigation was done which found the beneficiary's UPI-ID linked to the savings account in a reputed bank at Model Town, Delhi. The ownership of the beneficiary account was found in the name of one Rana Pratap Singh, having a mobile number registered in the name of another person, who is a resident of Mau, Uttar Pradesh. During further investigation, it was found the account and mobile number were that of Priyadarshan Tiwari who was arrested," said Anto Alphonse, DCP north.

Tiwari, a resident of Jharoda Majra, Delhi, passed out from Delhi Public School (DPS) and did his B.A (Hons) in political science. He was now pursuing his Masters in the same subject. - IANS
