ULFA claims responsibility for attack, Gogoi for offensive
01-December-2015
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday asked security forces to step up the offensive against the ULFA after it claimed responsibility for attacking Hindi-speaking people.
Gogoi directed Chief Secretary V.K. Pipersenia and Director General of Police Mukesh Sahay to deal firmly with the ULFA's anti-talk faction involved in the shooting in Namrup in Dibrugarh district on Monday night that injured two people.
He also spoke over telephone with the commander of the army's 3 Corps on Tuesday and requested the army to intensify combing operations to nab the militants.
Gogoi said he would ask the central government to take steps for an all-out operation against both ULFA and NSCN-K militants so that their camps in Myanmar were busted.
The ULFA faction led by its elusive 'commander-in-chief' Paresh Baruah on Tuesday claimed responsibility for the attack on Hindi-speaking people in Namrup and warned of more such attacks. - IANS
