West Bengal opposition leader heckled
20-November-2015
CPI-M leader Surjya Kanta Mishra, who heads the opposition in the West Bengal assembly, was on Friday heckled by people allegedly linked to the ruling Trinamool Congress.
The incident happened when Mishra was leading a march in West Midnapore district's Narayangarh area.
Conducted by 113 Left groups, the march is being held across the state in support of a 15-point programme that includes protests against "growing intolerance" in the country and "attacks on democratic rights" in the state.
In video grabs aired by news channels, some people were seen heckling Mishra before his security personnel came to the former minister's rescue.
The Left Front has condemned the Trinamool for the attack.
"Today's incident is not isolated... We strongly condemn this attitude of the Trinamool," Left Front chairman Biman Bose said.
The Trinamool has denied its involvement in Mishra's heckling. - IANS
