Delhi to table Jan Lokpal bill
18-November-2015
The Delhi government on Wednesday cleared the Jan Lokpal bill, saying it was akin to the one that failed to become law during the AAP's first stint in power.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the cabinet took the decision to bring forth the Delhi Jan Lokpal Bill 2015.
Asked when it will be tabled in the assembly, he said the date would be decided by the Business Advisory Committee.
Officials said the bill was on the lines of the Lokayukta Act in Uttarakhand which Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, then an activist, had helped to draft in 2011.
Kejriwal will come under the purview of the ombudsman under the Delhi Jan Lokpal Bill, they said.
The Aam Aadmi Party government had tried to introduce the Jan Lokpal bill in its first stint in power that collapsed within 49 days.
The AAP then stormed to power in February, winning 67 of the 70 seats. - IANS
