Water panel official held on rape complaint
19-January-2013
An officer of the Central Water Commission was arrested here Saturday after a woman complained he tried to rape her, police said.
Manjeet Singh, 45, was arrested from his house in Vikaspuri in west Delhi, police said.
According to the 40-year-old complainant, Singh, a director in the commission, promised to marry her and lured her to stay with him since Jan 26, 2012, police said.
"She told us that Singh was raping her for the past one year. Three months back when Singh refused to marry her she decided to stay separately in a rented accommodation," said a police officer.
The complainant told police that Singh threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about their relationship.
Police said a few months back, Singh's mother had lodged a complaint against the woman saying that she wanted to grab her son's property. - IANS
