Floor test in Madhya Pradesh, numbers favour BJP
20-March-2020
As the Kamal Nath-led government in Madhya Pradesh braces for the vote of confidence on the direction of the Supreme Court, the current arithmetic of the Assembly appears to be favouring the BJP. Both the Congress and the BJP have issued the crucial whip for their MLAs.
The Assembly Secretariat has called the session at 2 p.m. on the direction of the Supreme Court. The agenda was released by the Secretariat late on Thursday night.
However, Chief Minister Kamal Nath has called a press conference before the session.
Amid the recent political developments, the Chief Minister's press conference is considered important because he may make a big announcement.
At present, the arithmetic of the Assembly seems to be in favour of the BJP, especially after Speaker N.P. Prajapati accepted the resignation of 16 more Congress MLAs on Thursday night.
The Legislative Assembly has 230 MLAs, of which 24 seats are vacant. A majority in the House of 206 MLAs will require the support of 104 MLAs. The BJP has 107 MLAs, and the Congress 92. The Congress has the support of the Samajwadi Party, the Bahujan Samaj Party and Independent MLAs, which totals up to 99. IANS
