On World Toilet Day Monday, a campaign called Toilets are Beautiful (TAB) was held at Dilli Haat in south Delhi to sensitise people against open defecation and to promote sanitation and hygiene.
TAB is part of the Nirmal Bharat Yatra, a campaign to address India's sanitation and hygiene crisis.
"We have a target and we are working towards it. By 2022, we want India to be free from open defecation. In rural areas, 67 percent of the people defecate in the open," said Pankaj Jain, secretary, Ministry of Water Supply and Sanitation.
"The campaign will end today (Monday) in Dilli Haat, and will be moved to the inner circle in Connaught Place, central Delhi," an organiser said. - IANS
