Tamil Nadu rules out liquor prohibition

Ruling out introduction of liquor prohibition in the state, the Tamil Nadu government on Friday told the assembly said a ban would result illicit liquor tragedies.
Excise Minister Natham R. Viswanathan also said the per capita consumption of liquor in the state is lower than many other states including Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
He said it is practically not possible to impose liquor prohibition as such a policy has failed in other countries also, but added the state government would however take steps to create awareness about the ill effects of liquor consumption. - IANS
