The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the violence witnessed in northeast Delhi in February has found vital clues in the form of video clips, which will help it crack the case soon.

The development comes after the arrest of suspended Aam Aadmi Party councillor Tahir Hussain.

Though the SIT, did not share any details on its investigation with IANS, a senior police official said: "So far, 5-6 video clips have been received. These recorded on mobile phones have gone viral on the social media. Our teams had been monitoring the social media to gather evidence on the violence."

A DCP-ranked officer said: "We are currently gathering evidence and identifying witnesses. Our effort is to reach the real culprits. These videos are proving very helpful in this regard."

"Forensic investigation of these videos is under way so as to ensure these are not edited/tampered with. At the same time, while presenting the clips in court, we also have to prove that all these were recovered from violence-hit area on February 24-25."

An Inspector-ranked officer on the SIT told IANS: "The videos are from Chand Bagh locality and its surroundings. The videos may be from the same place but each is captured from different angles.

The clips dated February 24 show a mob indulging in violence and policemen caught in their midst.

According to an ACP connected with team 'B' of SIT: "Tahir Hussain will also tell us a lot about the viral videos."

Tahir was allegedly present in the area on the day of violence for several hours.

According to another police officer, police had also got hold of CCTV footage on the violence, which will help faster investigation into the death of Constable Ratan Lal. IANS
