BJP's MP Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday lectured students his version of nationalism during an annual college function in his constituency.
"Respecting women is nationalism, saving water is nationalism, not indulging in corruption is nationalism and something as small as obeying traffic rules late in the night when nobody is watching is also nationalism," Gambhir said.
He also praised the students for helping in maintaining peace at a time when clashes broke out in parts of resulting in the death of at least 47 people.
Talking about what ideology he believes in, Gambhir said, "I believe in one ideology and that is called India". He said being right wing, left wing or centrist doesn't make sense to him.
Gambhir's contrasting take on nationalism assumes significance in the aftermath of Delhi election campaign which saw a few BJP leaders, including Union minister Anurag Thakur making provocative speeches in the name of 'nationalism'.
