Indian Coast Guard fishes out 15 kg smuggled gold from sea

The Indian Coast Guard and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 15 kg gold in a joint anti-smuggling operation, an official statement said on Wednesday.
According to the statement, a Coast Guard and DRI team apprehended a fishing boat and two persons on Tuesday at Mandapam in Tamil Nadu. On basis of information received from them, Coast Guard personnel undertook a diving operation in the Gulf of Mannar and recovered one cloth package containing five black packs and brought it ashore.
The bag was found to contain 15 kg of gold worth around Rs 6.3 crore and the precious metal was handed over to DRI officials for further formalities.IANS
