A civilian was killed and four others were injured on Monday in Pakistani shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.
"One civilian was killed and four others were injured in indiscriminate shelling on the LoC by Pakistan Army in Poonch district," a senior official told IANS in winter capital Jammu.
Abdul Hamid, 24, was killed in the shelling.
The official said the injured are being shifted to hospital for treatment.
Defense spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta did not confirm civilian casualties on the Indian side, but said that the Pakistani Army is using 120 mm mortars while violating the ceasefire in Poonch district.
Reports said heavy shelling and firing exchanges between the two armies are continuing in the area now.
Pakistan had on Sunday night used 82 mm mortars, RPGs and automatic weapons to target Indian positions.
"Pakistan shelling and firing started at 11 p.m. on Sunday," Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta said.
He added that "our troops are effectively and appropriately responding. Intermittent firing exchanges continued till Monday morning". - IANS
