As most things in India, the matter of transfer of Justice Muralidhar from Delhi high court too ended up becoming a slugfest between the BJP and the Congress.

As former Congress leader Rahul Gandhi raked up the issue of late judge B.H. Loya, making a sarcastic statement, the BJP in return shot back by raking up the anti-Sikh riots of 1984.

Delhi BJP leader and the party's candidate in Delhi election from Hari Nagar - Tajinder Bagga tweeted, "Remembering the 10,000 Sikhs, who were not Saved," in response to Rahul Gandhi's dig at the Centre saying, "Remembering the brave Judge Loya, who wasn't transferred."

Judge B.H. Loya was presiding over the Sohrabuddin Sheikh case in a special court when he died in December 2014 under mysterious circumstances.

The Ministry of Law and Justice on Wednesday transferred Justice S. Muralidhar of the Delhi High Court to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The transfer came on a day when a High Court bench headed by Justice Muralidhar passed a series of orders with regard to the violence in northeast Delhi and said that "another 1984-like situation cannot be allowed to happen in the city under its watch."

However his transfer was recommended by the Supreme Court collegium a week back.IANS
