26-February-2020
The Digital Communications Commission may meet on Thursday to discuss relief measures possible for the telcos in wake of huge AGR dues on them.
The meeting will be chaired by DoT Secretary Anshu Prakash and Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant may be present among others. DEA Secretary Atanu Chakraborty, who is also a member of the Commission, may not attend it as he is travelling.
Giving the telcos low interest loans could come for discussion, sources said adding that these could be from a 'stress fund' like the one for the realty sector. The USO Fund, which has a corpus of Rs 47,000 crore, is also being talked about for possible soft loans.
Vodafone Idea has repeatedly urged the government to help it in paying its AGR dues.
The government is endeavouring to bring out a package before the Supreme Court's next hearing on March 17.IANS
