31-August-2015
A 32-year-old inter-state drug trafficker was arrested with 7.50 kg of opium here, police said on Monday.
Palvinder Singh, a resident of Amritsar in Punjab, was arrested from Mukarba Chowk in west Delhi on Friday after police received a tip off.
"Singh has been using Delhi as a transit point to transport drugs from Uttar Pradesh to Punjab," Delhi Police Commissioner (Special Cell) Ranjiv Ranjan said.
Police said that Singh, who is a farmer by occupation, initially started consuming opium a few year's back and gradually came in contact with local suppliers.
"The potential of making fast money propelled Singh into becoming a local supplier of opium. Later, he came in touch with some suppliers of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana," the official said.
The official said that Singh expanded his network to make more money and started transporting opium from Uttar Pradesh for supplying to local traffickers and peddlers in Amritsar and the rest of Punjab. - IANS
