Portuguese President arrives in Goa for two-day visit

Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will sign three agreements including one related to upgrading Goa's water management and sewage treatment facilities during his two-day visit to Goa beginning Saturday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said.

Sousa, who arrived in Goa on Saturday evening, is also expected to attend two other formal engagements which includes a state dinner at Raj Bhavan hosted by Governor Satya Pal Malik.

"One of the agreements his team will be signing off on will be with Goa government's Public Works Department. His team will also be endorsing another agreement with the Goa Shipyard Limited, followed by an interactive session related to the Smart City concept in the state capital," Sawant told reporters in Panaji, shortly after the arrival of de Sousa.

In 2018, on the sidelines of the visit of Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa, who is incidentally of Goan origin, an MoU was signed between the state government's PWD and the Portuguese Environment Ministry for sharing of expertise in the area of water and sewage management.

"He will also be hosted for dinner at Raj Bhavan by our Governor," Sawant said.

The Chief Minister also said, that the Portuguese President will be in Goa for most of Sunday too, but added that the de Sousa had private engagement scheduled on that day. - IANS
