The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chief Swati Maliwal announced on Monday that the commission will issue notices to Delhi Police and Gargi college administration in the matter of alleged sexual harassment at the campus.

Maliwal visited Gargi college campus on Monday afternoon and talked to some of the students about the incident that took place on February 6, day 3 of the annual festival 'Reverie'.

Later, she told media persons here that, "In Gargi College, the miscreants molested the college girls. Despite being such a serious matter, the police and the college administration present on the spot did not take any action. I have come to meet girls in the college. We are issuing notices to both, Delhi Police and college administration. Those who molested the girls should be arrested immediately."

Earlier in the day, National Commission for women also took cognizance of the matter of alleged sexual harassment of girl students in the college campus. A delegation of the NCW visited Gargi college on Monday.

Some of the students of Gargi College on Saturday alleged that some "drunken men" -- said to be pro-CAA demonstrators -- had entered the women's college campus and misbehaved with students.

The incident, the students say, took place a few days ago during Day 3 of the annual festival 'Reverie'. A group of drunken men reportedly entered the college affiliated to Delhi University, and manhandled the students.

"Girls were groped, locked in washrooms, stalked to the nearby Green Park metro, cat-called, eve-teased and misbehaved with during the festival," read the blog of one of the students of Gargi College.

A student requesting anonymity told IANS: "I can't confirm the allegations of molestation but a large group of drunken men had dropped in and manhandled students."

A suo motu probe by a senior police officer has been initiated into the alleged manhandling and molestation at the all-girls Gargi College in south Delhi last week, police said on Monday.

"We have initiated suo motu investigations into allegations of molestation and manhandling of students during the annual fest 'Reverie 2020'," Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Thakur told IANS.

An Additional Deputy Commissioner-rank officer will head the probe into the incident.

The students also staged a protest inside the college campus on Monday demanding action against the accused.-IANS
