Two cops suspended as Punjab minister hoists flag upside down

Two Punjab Police officials were placed under suspension on Saturday after a senior minister unfurled the national flag upside down on the occasion of India's 69th Independence Day celebrations here.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh placed inspector Gurmukh Singh and assistant sub-inspector Gurinder Singh under suspension following the faux pas.
The commissioner also sought explanation in this regard.
Punjab's Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia was left embarrassed when he unfurled the flag at the Guru Nanak Dev stadium here at the district-level function.
Majithia, the brother of union minister Harsimrat Badal and brother-in-law of Punjab's Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, even went ahead and delivered his speech at the event without noticing that the flag was hoisted upside down.
The flag was put up properly after it was brought to the notice of the minister. - IANS
