In major embarrassment, a word expunged from PM's speech in Rajya Sabha
07-February-2020
In a major embarrassment for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling BJP, a word has been expunged from his speech in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday when he launched a blistering attack on the opposition.
Replying to Motion of Thanks to the President's address, Modi attacked the opposition parties for protesting against National Population Register (NPR). In the middle of the speech, one of his words was found to be objectionable by the opposition which has been expunged now by the Chair.
This is not the first time that Modi's comments have been found to be objectionable. In 2018, PM's remarks on Congress leader B.K. Hariprasad had also been expunged.
Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister had then made a remark that involved a wordplay on the Congress leader's name.
The Rajya Sabha Chairman directs the House secretariat to expunge unparliamentary or objectionable words used by the members during the course of discussion or debate.
