National Conference demands rollback of move to scrap Article 370
04-February-2020
National Conference MP Hasnain Masoodi on Tuesday demanded that the government should undo the abrogation of Article 370, saying it was a "historical blunder".
Participating in a debate on the motion of thanks to the President's address in the Lok Sabha, Masoodi said that revocation of Article 370 was "a breach of commitment" made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Anantnag MP said that apart from earlier commitments, the 1975 Indira-Sheikh accord "gave a guarantee that the relationship will be governed by Article 370".
He said that Jammu and Kashmir, before the abrogation of Article 370, was better in development indices as compared to several other states of the country and a false narrative was sought to be built.
Masoodi said the decision to revoke Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, "denuded the erstwhile state of its identity".
On August 5 last year, the government had announced the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A of the Constitution from Jammu and Kashmir.
Masoodi also said that militancy has again made "inroads" in Jammu and Kashmir.IANS
