11 militants killed in southern Afghanistan: Govt

Eleven Taliban militants were killed during an operation by Afghan National Army commandos in southern Uruzgan province, the Afghan Defence Ministry said on Saturday.
The operation was launched late on Friday night in the vicinity of provincial capital Tirin Kot city, resulting in the death of 11 Taliban militants, Xinhua quoted a ministry statement.
An arms and ammunition depot of the militants was destroyed during the overnight operation, said the statement.
The province has been the scene of clashes and fighting for long.
The operation aimed at disrupting the insurgents' activities in Uruzgan, the statement noted.
Meanwhile, a Kabul report quoted state-run news agency Bakhtar News Agency that Afghan security forces had arrested six persons affiliated to the Taliban and Islamic State (IS) in three eastern provinces.
Afghan National Army personnel arrested these individuals since early Friday in Nangarhar, Laghman and Kunar provinces.
Weaponry and evidence showing their association with the groups have also been confiscated by the security forces. The groups haven't made a comment on the report yet.IANS
