Haryana's power distribution companies -- Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) on Saturday announced starting of 24-hour electricity supply to 201 villages in the state.

With this, the total number of villages with round-the-clock supply reached 4,463, nearly two-third of the total number of villages.

A spokesman for DISCOMs said the UHBVN is supplying round-the-clock electricity in 2,637 villages, while the DHBVN is providing power to 1,826 such villages.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched "Mhara Gaon-Jagmag Gaon" scheme from Dayalpur village in Kurukshetra district on July 1, 2015.

Under this scheme, old power cables in village are replaced with new cables and villagers are urged to pay outstanding electricity bills.

As soon as the line loss decreases, supply to the village is increased in a graded manner, leading to uninterrupted supply on the urban pattern, said the spokesperson.

This also helps minimising the loss of transformers in rural area.

The Chief Minister has exhorted the rural electricity consumers to avail benefit of this scheme by coming forward and joining it in large number.

He has also assured that the distribution companies will provide 24-hour uninterrupted power supply to all such villages.

Currently, 100 per cent villages in nine districts -- Panchkula, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar, Gurugram, Faridabad, Sirsa, Rewari and Fatehabad -- are getting 24-hour electricity supply as part of "Mhara Gaon Jagmag Gaon" scheme. IANS
